Using the evidence from historical documents and oral histories, this paper details the importance of this locale during the late 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The role played by Alston Point in the development of the town of Bathurst is explored. Alston Point was a commercial shipping center for fishing and lumbering products but it also served as a place of residence, a 19th century shipbuilding station, a militia training grounds, a bird hunting destination, and as a recreational property.
