Description

"Once again we present a traditional Maliseet calendar based on the thirteen moons in every year. Note that each moon begins on the new moon, and the first moon ends on the shortest day of the year (December 21st). This moon is generally called 'Kci-kisohs' or "Big Moon" though it is not always long. the remaining moons are named according to the characteristics or activities unique to each moon in the central region of New Brunswick. It should also be noted that some moons had other names. That was because Maliseets living in different parts of their territory from the St. Lawrence River to the Bay of Fundy engaged in somewhat different activities at certain times of the year according to the climate and availability of resources. In the calendar for this year we feature the main villages and campsites throughout Maliseet territory."--Page 2 of cover.
