A Commerce of Taste: Church Architecture in Canada, 1867-1914

The author explores the popularity of church pattern books of the mid-to late-19th century featuring Medieval English church architecture. Their effect on ideology and aesthetics in Canada was profound. Three important churches fostered by Anglican Bishop John Medley are studied: Christ Church Cathedral and St. Anne's Parish Church in Fredericton, and Christ Church in Maugerville.
