Atlantic Province Authors of the Twentieth Century: A Bio-Bibliographical Checklist
Publication Details
Includes writers of both juvenile and adult poetry, fiction, and drama who were either born in the Atlantic provinces or lived here long enough to have published a body of work during their stay. Excludes those who lived here but did not produce while they lived here (for example, Elizabeth Bishop), or were here as writers-in-residence only (Dorothy Livesay and Norman Levine among them), or who only lived here while attending university. Occasionally included are summer residents whose work deals with the area almost exclusively, many of whom spent twenty years or more here. Each entry provides biographical information, a list of books, and references to appearances in anthologies and magazines. The tortured explanation of inclusions and exclusions points to the difficulty of coming up with a satisfactory definition of a New Brunswick writer. Full marks to Laugher for this valiant effort.
