Description
A detailed report on the Maritime Archaic (or Moorehead Burial Phase) Cow Point site on Grand Lake. The site contained burials with elaborate grave goods and that were covered with red ochre. These burials are similar to those from the same time period found throughout the Atlantic Northeast. The red ochre included in Maritime Archaic cemeteries led to the Maritime Archaic peoples being referred to, historically, as the Red Paint People.
