Description
A chapter dedicated to New Brunswick provides an annotated list of sixty-nine cookbooks published in the province before 1950. The earliest cookbook identified, Secret Knowledge Disclosed by Richard Moore, dates from 1871, and was "designed for the use of every business man"! It contains recipes for grocers and food manufacturers, as well as a few family recipes. One learns from the essay accompanying the chapter that New Brunswick, despite its smaller population, produced more cookbooks in the nineteenth century that did Nova Scotia.
