Linger by the Sea
Publication Details
This picture book describes a seaside vacation from the perspective of two children. They search for treasures in the sand, jump in the waves, and listen to the surf at night. The literary talent of Frances Itani (1942-) and the artistic vision of Molly Lamb Bobak (1920-2014) combine to create a modern, lyrical book that captures the joy of a Maritime summer. The cover art is a full-colour reproduction of Lamb Bobak's "Beach," and the interior illustrations are other paintings by the artist, printed in blue ink. Although many Atlantic Canadian children's books about summer by the sea have been published since 1979, Linger by the Sea stands out as an innovative, artistic achievement and was recognized as such upon its publication.
