Lord Dalhousie: Patron and Collector
Publication Details
Governor of Nova Scotia from 1816 to 1820, and Governor General of British North America from 1820 to 1828, Dalhousie was a major patron of artists and architects. He would befriend soldier, draftsman, and artist John Elliott Woolford, who came to Nova Scotia from Edinburgh in 1816 to serve as Dalhousie's draftsman and Halifax barrack-master. Moving to New Brunswick in 1823, Woolford became the architect of two iconic buildings in Fredericton: Government House and King's College (now the University of New Brunswick's Sir Howard Douglas Hall). This exhibition catalogue reproduces many of Woolford's painting, along with architectural elevations of his Fredericton buildings,
