Description

Although jurisdictionally in Maine, St. Croix Island is as emotionally and historically connected to New Brunswick and Canada as it is to the United States. There in 1604, Champlain and DeMonts attempted to establish the first permanent settlement in New France. This study looks extensively at archaeological evidence of buildings and patterns of life on the island before the settlement was abandoned in 1605 for Port Royal.
