Saint John Fortifications, 1630-1956

Since the 17th century, Saint John has been an important seaport occupying an equally important military position. Guardian of rivers during the colonial era, the city evolved over three centuries to eventually deploy the more sophisticated and industrial harbor defenses required in the two world wars. This book tells the story, from Fort LaTour built in 1632 through to the 20th-century concrete gun emplacements of the Second World War.
