Description

One of the Martimes' earliest literary magazines, The Amaranth was a monthly published in Saint John by Roberts Shives. In fact, Shives titles himself the "conductor" of the magazine, which carried both reprinted material and original works. Several New Brunswick writers can be found within its pages, including Moses Henry Perley, Emily Elizabeth Beavan, and Douglass Smith Huyghue, all pursued a succesful career as a writer of novels and short stories, all of which were published in the U.S.
