The Architecture of Edward and W.S. Maxwell
Publication Details
Edward and William Maxwell were brothers and partners in a respected Montreal architecture firm, the first to be considered as an artistic and technical equal to the major American firms of the late-19th and early 20th century. Well-versed in both institutional and residential commissions, the brothers designed over thirty exquisite mansions in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, home to some of Canada's wealthiest business tycoons. A number of these individuals also had summer homes in St. Andrews, of which the Maxwells designed many of the finest. Published to accompany an exhibition at the MMFA, the catalogue mentions a number of the Maxwell's New Brunswick project, featuring in detail F.W. Thompson's Meadow Lodge and the estate of Sir William Van Horne.
