Thomas Fuller: Architect for a Nation

Thomas Fuller served from 1881 to 1896 as Dominion Architect for the federal government's Department of Public Works. Fuller was credited with Canadian nation-building through architecture for his design of the original parliamentary library in Ottawa, as well as many courthouses, post offices, and government office buildings across the country. In his buildings, solidity and symbolism fused in functional institutional structures that evoked permanence and trust. Although many of New Brunswick projects have been demolished, extant federal buildings remain in Sussex, St. Stephen, and Bathurst.
