Rev. William Alves
1825-1873
William Alves was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He served in Saint John, New Brunswick as a Presbyterian minister from 1855-1867. He was instrumental in the building of the Calvin Church in Saint John in 1871 and while there, published St. Paul's Epistle to the Ephesians. Alves was appointed as a missionary of the Free Church of Scotland to New Zealand, moving there in 1868, where he would die of tuberculosis on 1 February 1873.
