James Doak
1823-1854
James Doak immigrated from Ireland to New Brunswick 1828 per 1851 Census. He was co-owner and publisher of the Loyalist, a Saint John newspaper, established in 1842, then moved to Fredericton and renamed the Loyalist and Conservative Advocate in 1843, and in 1846 renamed the Loyalist and Conservative. Doak wrote The Constitutional Lyrist: A Collection of National Songs, Original and Selected, Adapted to the Use of the Loyalists of New-Brunswick (1845) with Thomas Hill. He died 10 September 1854 of cholera.
