Marvin Leslie Hayward
1877-1947
Judge Marvin Leslie Hayward was born on 16 December 1877 in Ashland, NB. Judge Hayward was educated in the common school at Ashland, the Provincial Normal School, and King's College Law School (now UNB Law School), Saint John. In 1902 he entered upon the study of law, being articled with W.F. Kertson of Grand Falls, and C.N. Skinner, K.C., of Saint John. He was sworn in as an attorney in NB in November, 1905, and a barrister in 1906. He practiced his profession at Hartland from 1905 until February 1931 when he was appointed Judge of the County Court of Charlotte, Carleton, Victoria and Madawaska. Hayward wrote articles about law, but also published stories in the Maritime Advocate and had articles published in the Collections of the New Brunswick Historical Society. He died 8 February 1947 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Hartland, NB.
