Antoine Léger

1880-1950

Antoine Joseph Léger was born in Memramcook (NB) on 16 October 1880. After attending primary school in his native village, he enrolled at the Collège Saint-Joseph where he obtained his bachelor of arts in 1903. In 1907, he was called to the Bar of New Brunswick and established his practice location in Moncton, NB. From 1925 to 1935, he was a member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick for the county of Westmorland. In 1935, he was appointed senator, as successor to Pascal Poirier. He was active in the Société Nationale l'Assomption, the Association acadienne d'éducation and the Comité de Grand-Pré Memorial Church.  Léger published Les grandes lignes de l'histoire de la Société l'Assomption, the history of an Acadian association, and wrote articles on Acadian history as well as several historical novels. He died 7 April 1950.
