Description
Discusses the contributions of W. M. Tweedie to New Brunswick's Mount Allison Wesleyan College (which later became Mount Allison University), where he introduced an English honors program that became the archetype for those of other Canadian universities. In his 1888 inaugural address Tweedie advocated required study of earlier versions of a language—such as Early and Middle English—and a historical approach to the study of literature.
