An Atlantic Canadian historian, Wright published many notable works about the Loyalist and the New England Planters. She is known for her genealogical studies focusing on the pioneering families of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. One such study (of the Steeves family of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. One such study (of the Steeves family of New Brunswick) ran to one thousand pages. Prior to her academic career, Wright served briefly as the first female pastor of New Brunswick. Her studies took her to Acadia University. the University of Toronto, Oxford, Standford, and Radcliffe/Harvard, where she graduated with a PhD in economic history in 1931.
