Description

The Agustine Mound, located at Metepenagiag, is an Early Maritime Woodland burial mound that is affiliated with Adena, an Early Woodland cultural complex characterized by burial mounds, native copper beads, blocked-end tubular pipes, and other diagnostic artifacts. Work at the Augustine Mound connected New Brunswick to this cultural manifestation that spans at least as far south as the Ohio Valley. The Augustine Mound excavations were also an example of an early collaborative archaeology project between professional archaeologists and Indigenous community members.
