Bishop was born in Dover, New Brunswick, and served as University Librarian at Mount Allison University from 1949 to 1953, before departing for Ontario to pursue other professional opportunities. Bishop was awarded the Tremaine Medal by the Bibliographical Society of Canada in 1981, in recognition of her important contributions to Canadian bibliography. This work fills an important gap in the record of New Brunswick government documents. Only in 1955 did the New Brunswick Legislative Library begin to publish regular checklists of government publications.
