Station: Irving Architectural Landscapes

Rural and urban gas stations once existed as cornerstones of community architecture. Between 1979 and 2004, Holownia photographed older Irving gas stations throughout Atlantic Canada. Many of these relics are now gone, having been replaced by more strategically located self-serve gas bars, complete with convenience stores and restaurants. Many of the fifty images comprising Holownia's series are reproduced in this exhibition catalogue.
