Lizzie E Palmer
1829-1902

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Estabrooks was born 12 July 1829 in Canning, NB.  In 1855 she married Isaac Ambrose Palmer (son of NB poet David Palmer). She wrote a single book of poetry, The Selected Poems of Lizzie E. Palmer (1889).  She died 9 January 1902 and is buried in the Scotchtown Cemetery.

    Scope and Content Note

    This fonds documents the personal and professional activities of several members of the Palmer family of Sunbury and Queens counties, New Brunswick, most notably, David Palmer (poet); Lizzie E. Estabrooks Palmer (poet): James Palmer; Daniel Palmer, the son of the poet David Palmer; and Daniel Palmer, the son of Daniel Palmer and Ella B. Hunter Palmer. Records pertaining to David Palmer (poet) include a single letter (1842) consisting primarily of copies of hymns and poems by Daniel Herbert from his published work Hymns and Poems; manuscript verses of poetry possibly in David Palmer's hand, including one entitled, "A vision of Thomas Ensley at St. John's, February 21st 1802"; David Palmer's hardcover, published volume of poetry entitled, New Brunswick and other poems (1869); a copy of a photograph of David Palmer and his wife, Marion Hunter Palmer; biographical information on him; and photocopies of land petitions. Records pertaining to Lizzie E. Estabrooks Palmer (poet) include a manuscript poem entitled, "Lines", possibly in her hand; a manuscript copy of her poem, "Baby Irene", probably not in her hand; and her small booklet of poetry entitled, The selected poems of Lizzie E. Palmer that was probably published before 1888. Records of James Palmer consist of a single 11-page, manuscript poem entitled, "Watts Vision" (1839). Records of Daniel Palmer, David and Marion Hunter Palmer's son, include a manuscript copy or manuscript poem entitled, "Verses on the death of two boys, sons of Mr. John Coy who were both drowned going into the water to swim in the absence of their father" composed by him, and a photograph, probably of Daniel Palmer and his wife, Elizabeth J. (Eliza) Marshall Palmer.  Includes genealogical information on the Palmer family and a copy of The selected poems of Lizzie E. Palmer [before 1888]; along with a brief biographical sketch of poet David Palmer prepared by W. Benton N. Evans for the Maugerville-Sheffield Bi-Centenary Celebration (1963); a copy of the suggested programme for family research and the memorial to poet David Palmer to be erected in the summer of 1967; a tribute to poet David Palmer by the Rev. Lewis Jack; a review of David Palmer's New Brunswick and other Poems by Rev. I. E. Bill; a transcription of excerpts from David Palmer's diary (1809-1819); and other notes and transcriptions of records concerning David Palmer and other family members are located on microfilm no. F2.
