Monsignor Désiré Allain
1892-1989

Désiré Allain was born in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent (NB) on 8 September 1892. After his primary studies in his native parish, he did his secondary and classical studies at Saint-Joseph College from 1907 to 1914 (BA). In 1915 he completed his theological studies at the Seminary in Halifax (NS), became a deacon in 1916 and was received at the priesthood at Saint John, NB, 29 June 1917. Between 1917 and 1919, he served as curate in Bouctouche and Moncton, then was appointed parish priest of Notre-Dame in 1928. Father Allain lived in this parish until 1940, when he was appointed parish priest of Bouctouche where he retired in 1967. Allain died 13 September 1989 in Bouctouche, NB.

    Scope and Content Note

    The Désiré-Allain collection mainly attests to his profession as parish priest for almost a half century. The fonds consists of two series: (a) personal papers and (b) professional activities. The fonds includes personal files relating to his family and his life as a student and seminarist. Includes sermons, books of censuses, various tracts, newspaper clippings, and musical scores.
