Myrtis Theresa Dohaney
1930-

Myrtis Theresa ("Jean") Dohaney (teacher and writer) was born on 15 Setpember 1930 in the coastal community of Point Verde, Newfoundland. She moved to Fredericton in 1954 with her husband Walter. Dohaney attended the University of New Brunswick, where she earned a BA in English Literature. She went on to complete an MA and PhD from the University of Maine and Boston University, respectively.  Dohaney published her debut article in the Catholic magazine Annals of Saint Anne de Beaupre and has since published six novels, including The Corrigan Women (1988), When Things Get Back to Normal (2002), and The Flannigans: A Novel (2007).  She has also had numerous short stories published in various magazines over the years and has received several awards, including the 1995 Thomas H. Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award. In 2000 she became involved with the Atlantic Film Festival. As a result, her story-turned-film Come Back Paddy Riley debuted at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dohaney has spent most of her adult life in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She spent several years teaching in the New Brunswick public school system, later teaching technical writing and literature at UNB.

    Scope and Content Note

    These papers were generated during the years 1987 to 2007 and reflect the author's work as a writer of fiction and non-fiction. Through this Collection a researcher can trace the writing career of MT Dohaney. She worked in a variety of genres including novels, short stories, plays, autobiography. There is also a large amount of correspondence with her editor and friends. Series 1 consists of personal material including diaries and correspondence. Series 2 consists of material related to the publication of The Corrigan Women, and includes research, manuscripts, correspondence, and promotional material. Series 3 consists of material related to the publication of When Things Get Back to Normal and includes diaries, manuscripts, correspondence, promotional material.
