Mark Anthony Jarman
1955-
Mark Anthony Jarman was born 11 June 1955 in Edmonton, AB. Jarman is a graduate of The Iowa Writers’ Workshop, a Yaddo fellow, has taught at the University of Victoria, the Banff Centre for the Arts, and the University of New Brunswick, where he is fiction editor of The Fiddlehead literary journal. Jarman started out writing short fiction, publishing often in Best Canadian Stories and The Journey Prize, but over the years he moved to creative nonfiction and travel stories. He has published his work in Walrus, Brick, and in international mags like The Barcelona Review, The Bombay Review, and The Hong Kong Review, as well as journals in Poland, the Netherlands, Ireland and the UK. Jarman’s essay about playing old-timers hockey in rural New Brunswick was cited in Best American Essays. He was editor of Best Canadian Stories 2023. His book Burn Man: Selected Stories is forthcoming from Biblioasis Press, and he is working on a wild west novel and a screenplay. Jarman's writing has won the O. Henry Award, the Gold National Magazine Award in nonfiction, the Jack Hodgins Fiction Prize, and has been a finalist for the Journey Prize.
