Léonard Forest
1928-
Léonard Forest was born in on 17 January 1928 in Chelsea, Massachusett. At the age of 18 months, he returned to Acadian land when his parents decided to settle in Moncton, NB. During his studies at the Université Saint-Joseph (Université de Moncton), Forest created what may also have been the first chronicle of film criticism in Atlantic Canada. It was published by the newspaper L'Évangéline where he worked as a journalist while pursuing his student career. When he left college, Forest applied for a job at the National Film Board. While waiting for NFB to contact him, he worked in Montreal as a news editor for an English radio station. In 1953, he was hired by the NFB, where he worked for over 30 years as a director, screenwriter, editor, or producer. He produced about fifteen films, including La noce est pas finie, Les fishermen from Pomcoup and Les aboiteaux. He also wrote: Saisons antérieures (1973) at Éditions d'Acadie, Comme en Florence (1980) which was awarded the prix France-Acadie; La jointure du temps (1998), which was awarded the Prix Champlain 1999; Le pommier d'août (2001); Les trois pianos (2003); and, Ni queue ni tête (2004) at Éditions Bouton d'or Acadie.
