Dr. Jessie Sagawa
1962-

Jessie Sagawa (writer, poet) was born in Blantyre, Malawi. She holds a PhD in English from the University of New Brunswick, where she is the Facilitator for the English Language Programme. Her MA is also from the University of New Brunswick. Sagawa has a BA from the University of Malawi, and has published in several journals, including Postcolonial Text and Studies in Canadian Literature. Her MA thesis was entitled “Victims and rebels : women in the African fiction of Buchi Emecheta and Margaret Laurence” (1988) and her PhD was "Daughters of Makewana : a critical and contextual study of women in selected Malawian novels in English" (2006).
