"The Religious History of Atlantic Canada: The State of the Art"

Three works published in the early 1970's - J. M. Bumsted's 'Henry Alline' (1971); Judith Fingard's 'The Anglican Design in Loyalist Nova Scotia' (1972); and Gordon Stewart and George Rawlyk's 'A People Highly Favoured of God: the Nova Scotia Yankees and the American Revolution' (1972) - heralded a new and more critical approach to the study of the region's religious traditions. Since then a growing number of works on the religious history of Atlantic Canada have appeared, and have added considerably to general knowledge on the topic.
